Move Different

Thinking about writing a book someday, but for now it starts here.

The more we learn to live loved, and the more healing takes place in our lives, the more we begin exercising muscles we may not have used before.

Pausing before we speak.
Choosing curiosity over correction.
Asking questions the way Jesus often did instead of immediately offering our own “great ideas.”
Waiting on the Holy Spirit to give us the words we need rather than assuming we already have them.

We move differently.

We move more like Jesus.

I’ve been thinking about the way Jesus interacted with people. He was the perfect example of truth and grace, but He was also one of the greatest question-askers.

So often, our instinct is to respond by correcting people, pointing out what they’re doing wrong, or trying to fix what we see. But Jesus frequently did something different.

He engaged.

He stayed present.

He asked questions.

He listened.

He saw people beneath the behavior.

Maybe moving differently means learning to resist the urge to immediately tell people where they need to change and instead simply be.

Be in the relationship.

Be present.

Be compassionate.

Be humble.

Ask God for the words you need to meet someone exactly where they are.

Because people often arrive at deeper transformation when they are invited to wrestle, process, and discover truth rather than having it forced upon them.

Our job is to plant the seeds God asks us to plant in the lives of those He is drawing toward His throne of goodness and grace.

Our job isn’t to force growth.

Our job is obedience.

And trust Him with the harvest.
